Watch Francesca Simon, the best-selling author of the Horrid Henry series, talking about why she wishes a project like We Are Writers was around when she was a child.

We Are Writers has received universally positive feedback from children and teachers who have taken part in the project. Teachers said it inspired children to write especially the more reluctant writers and gave pupils a moral boost to see their work published in a real book. Below are just some of the highlights from the feedback:

“Probably, the greatest reward for any writer is to see their work published. This is even more true for a child. The We Are Writers project from Scholastic Ireland is a fantastic celebration of children’s creativity and the stimulus to an ongoing interest in writing for pleasure. It has been a wonderful, fulfilling endeavour for pupils and teachers.” Noelle MacDonagh, St. Brigid’s N.S., Dublin

“I am SO impressed with the whole We Are Writers process. The children screamed when they saw their books and kept chanting, ‘We’re published authors!’ From the ease of uploading the stories online, to the quick customer service response and overall professional look of the books, I couldn’t be happier. I will definitely be ordering with you every year.” Melanie Taylor, owner of Little Star Writing which provides inspiring writing workshops for children

“The children were very excited by the whole process, it gave them a real purpose for writing.” St George Primary School, Abergele, Conwy

“A once-in-a-lifetime experience for a child and parent to have their work in print.” Bryngwyn Primary School, Abertillery, Gwent

“We Are Writers as well as other initiatives have helped raise the percentage of children getting Level 4 and above in their Key Stage 2 SATs from 60% to 85%.” St Mary’s C of E Primary School, Brent, London

“I want to thank Scholastic for what was a wonderful We Are Writers experience for us all. Everyone is thrilled with our book! They have been selling like hot cakes and some families have bought as many as 5!” Teresa Moran, Principal at Fatima N.S., Co. Leitrim

“... My class and I decided we wanted to publish our free writing stories because they were so good. That is precisely what we did! The whole school took part, and every single child wrote a story, poem or report for our book. It was a great exercise for practising our writing genres.” Read more here
